In-Hospital Neurological Rehabilitation

We believe that rehabilitation needs to start immediately post traumatic incident to make most use of the optimal recovery time post incident, as early as in the intensive care unit. Early intervention impacts the prognosis positively. Learned non-use post Stroke is just one negative effect that can occur if neurological rehabilitation is started only at a later stage. At this early stage, it is crucial to rehabilitate not just on a functional or activity level but on a perceptual (sensory and proprioceptive) level in the first place. This approach is comprised of our ability to feel, see, taste and smell; the way we make sense of the world. Our senses make up our conscious experience and allow us to interact with the people and objects around us. After sustaining an injury, particularly to the brain, our perceptual skills can be affected which then affects the person’s ability to process information, such as recognizing a familiar person, relating to everyday activities and to orientate themselves to time, place and their own person/body (position in space as well as their whereabouts). Our service also includes attending to a client’s mobility, often with particular interest on the upper limb rehabilitation including fine motor skills, the ability to wash and dress themselves as well as the cognitive functioning.
