Palliative Support

Palliative Support

At Neuro Rehab at Home, we believe that palliative support forms an integral part of the lives of many of our clients. As occupational therapists we know the importance of maintaining an active, self-determined lifestyle which supports the psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the individual. Regardless of the challenges, injury or illness present, we assist our clients in living a meaningful life as defined by them, for as long as possible.

We offer palliative support to our patients and their families in the comfort of their own home in the City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard and Southern Suburbs (as far as Rondebosch area) as well as a hospital-based intervention. Our hospital-based palliative service is available at Christian Barnaard Memorial hospital as well as at Vincent Pallotti Hospital.

The therapist in charge of our palliative service is Yolande Riekert.

Yolande has a special interest in palliative care for many years. Her MSocSc. Dissertation focussed on the experience of living with Childhood Cancer in the Eastern Cape, which exposed her to the challenges families face, living with a life-threatening illness. She has completed St. Luke’s Hospices bereavement course and has furthered her studies with a short course in Palliative Care at UCT.

Additionally, Yolande has engaged in various courses related to the fields of death and dying in her capacity as a yoga teacher. This has shaped her into the well experienced, competent and compassionate palliative care proffesional she is today, heading our team of professionals.
