Nelia graduated from Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2013 with her B.Occupational Therapy degree. Following her Community Service year at a rural hospital in Mpumalanga in 2014, she worked at the Vinent Pallotti Rehab unit in Cape Town for several years, where she gained invaluable experience treating adults with physical and neurological conditions.

Becoming a mother at the end of 2021 caused her to shift gears. She joined the Neuro Rehab at Home team in 2022 and is treating in-patients, mainly at Christiaan Barnard Hospital.

The ever evolving fields of cognition and neuro-plasticity drives her on-going education. She completed the Basic Wheelchair Seating course (2014), Bobath (Neuro-Developmental Treatment) training (2016), and various courses on Cognitive and Visual Perceptual Rehabilitation over the years. She is passionate about evidence-based practice and places a strong emphasis on a team approach to treatment. She excels at implementing systems and procedures to improve therapy and assist her patients and their families/carers to adapt and thrive.

Growing up on a small vineyard farm, her roots are in the sunny Northern Cape, and this is evidenced in her interactions with everyone she meets - with the aim of bringing them some Light. She is married to Jacques and has a son, Jakobus.
